Throughout these past two weeks, every grade has spent the testing block differently. The juniors took 5 CAASP tests, one on each day of testing. They are the ones the testing block was mainly designed for, but freshmen and sophomores also did testing. Freshmen took their Physical Fitness test in groups over the testing days, while sophomores took practice CAASP tests and learned about future college and career options. The seniors, however, had no testing to do and instead spent the week bonding and having fun activities. The first two days of testing were the Senior Olympics, which involved field games like capture the flag on day one and water games like slip ’n slides on day two. On Thursday, seniors spent the day at the beach for senior ditch day.
Senior Sabrina Rashti said, “The beach day was really fun! I liked how we all got to hang out together without the stress of school.”
This past week only had two days of testing, and the first was spent doing the senior lip dub. The tradition was started last year with the Class of 2025 and is continuing for this year’s graduating seniors. Wait for the end of the year to see the full video! The last day of testing was Wednesday, and seniors got the chance to celebrate. The testing block was spent eating brunch prepared by San Marcos parents and decorating their graduation caps.
While the past two weeks were packed with fun senior activities, there is still more coming up! Mr. Royal will be held on May 22nd, and senior awards will be on May 26th, both of which are being held in the MPAC. Prom, the night that seniors have been looking forward to for years, is at the Santa Barbara Historic Museum on May 30th. The theme was recently announced as “A Night in Full Bloom,” and tickets will be on sale in mid-May. At the very end of the year, seniors have their last few celebrations. June 1st is decision day, where the Class of 2026 is invited to wear merch representing their college or workforce, and celebrate their futures. Senior Sunrise, which was held in the fall, has a second part: Senior Sunset. The graduating class will be able to reflect on their year and read the letters they wrote themselves at the beginning of the year while they watch the sun set. Senior Movie Night will be held on June 8th, and the Royal Regatta will take place the next day, June 9th. Finally, to cap it all off, the San Marcos Graduation ceremony is on June 10th at 5:00. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the seniors’ hard work over these past 4 years!
