San Marcos Girls Lacrosse Crushes Rivals in Last Night Game

San Marcos Girls Lacrosse crushed Dos Pueblos last evening, scoring 18-7. DP has been their personal long-time rivals since the girls lacrosse program began, so this win was highly anticipated by all the players (especially the seniors on the team), coaches, and even parents. Through the players’ commitment and teamwork, they succeeded over DP, clinching their title as undefeated and 4-0 in League, and improving their standing 10-2 overall. This game was also the first time in seven years that SM Girls Lacrosse has beaten DP’s, including beating them on their home turf.

Within 20 seconds of the game beginning, senior and attacker Mia Martinez-Tomatis scored a goal, which would be the first of six she made during the game. The whole team started strong and continued playing with tremendous effort with the dream of beating DP on their minds.

Junior Sadi Adams prepares to take a shot at the DP goal.

“We came into the game determined because we’ve been waiting for this game all season,” said Martinez-Tomatis. “This year we knew we were going to be very strong so we were confident in our moves.”

Junior Sadi Adams was the other high-scoring player in this game, scoring six out of the 18 goals as well. Much of the offesense’s success is credited to a strong defense. Despite being shot at a lot by DP players, the defense remained sturdy, which made it possible for the offense to score goals.

Senior Megan Taylor defends the goal with success.

“Playing as a team, I feel like the game was a whole highlight reel,” said senior and goalie Megan Taylor. “Watching teammates as they play their hearts out in lacrosse, the environment is really fun to see our great chemistry and during the game our connections were visible.”

From assists to back-handed shots to teamwork, the San Marcos Girls Lacrosse crushed their no longer rivals, Dos Pueblos.

Watch their next game at home on Tuesday, April 9, against Nordhoff High School.
